In order to make yourself do more things offline, the best way to start is to remind yourself what are the things YOU love most in offline life.
Being so focused on online presence makes us forget how to live offline.
For example, after a few working weekends in a row (had some deadlines on my job) the weekend after I was completely and utterly (love the ‘utterly’ word) LOST. I didn’t know what to do with my time.
I was not prepared for a free weekend and I kept feeling that I need to work on something, I felt like I have forget something, so I spent most of the weekend lying on a couch with notebook in my lap, browsing and feeling guilty.
It sucked. So, the task for today is to write down a list of things that you like to do offline. Here is my list:
1) Eating
Yes, I love eating. From junk food to perfectly healthy homemade meal + a dessert (or maybe two). I also love to cook new meals when I have time, but I’m usually too lazy to do preparations – deciding what to cook, buying all the ingredients and reserving the time for cooking when my family will be home to enjoy my meal, so my cooking falls down to those few basic recipes which include the ingredients that I usually have at home.
I also love baking, but don’t know what to do with leftovers because my household consists of two grown-ups and two cats.
2) Gardening
I don’t have a garden, but I do have a balcony. I live in a continental climate so I can use my balcony mostly from spring to fall. It’s not very big so it’s a real challenge to make something useful and nice. I can not have any plants indoors because of the two very nosy kitties which pretty much destroy every plant in sight. Also I need to be careful which plants are possibly poisonous to them, so I keep my plant(folio) to minimum safety zone.
3) Riding my bicycle
But only if the weather is nice and dry and I have some time, so this comes down to such a small periods of time.
4) Crafting
Oh, how I love crafting. It’s my all time favourite thing. And I do know a lot of techniques. And I do need a lot of things for my home. Kitties need a new scratcher, chairs need new covers on the seats. I need new pillow covers etc.
Lot of good and fun crafts to do. But when ever I find the time to do any of it, I remember that I’m missing some important tool for the project and then I give up. So it’s constantly on my TO-DO list.
5) Cuddling
I love it. And my kitties too. And my partner too. But then he has some work deadline and no time for me. So I’m left with kitties and bunch of fur in my lap.
6) Reading a book
Ever since I was a kid, I loved reading. I was one of those kids who was familiar with librarians cause she read a half of the library. But now I just don’t think I have time to do it. When I start reading a book, there are so many things on my mind and I feel genuinely guilty for just sitting and reading. How sick is that?
7) Traveling
Love visiting new places, love driving in a bus/train/airplane to new destinations, love meeting new people and trying new things. I hope to find more opportunities to travel more in near future.
8) Sitting on a coffee with a friend
There is a whole culture in my homeland which looks crazy to the foreigners. During the whole week and all day long you can find people drinking coffee and tourists are all – ‘Don’t they ever work?’ but the thing is that we like to go to coffee not just with our friends but with our business partners, colleagues etc.
The coffee shops are are the places where most businesses are sealed ;)
Having a coffee with a friend and talking about her or my problems is of course way better and I’m not doing it as much as I want to.
That’s it for now. Can’t remember anything else at the moment. Maybe I’ll edit this post later.
